Last year I was a Staff Reporter for the university newspaper, the Exponent, which is a source of information for the vast student body of Purdue. My position as a Staff Reporter was writing articles for the sports column. In addition, I was responsible for interviewing Purdue athletes and compiling accurate and complete reports. Being a writer for a newspaper that reports for Big Ten athletics and a diverse audience, it was vital for me to have advanced written skills. Working for The Exponent allowed me to enhance not only my communication skills but to also execute under the pressure of strict deadlines. I am also involved in the Public Relations Student Society of America, Association for Women in Communications and Pre-Law Society, which allows me to develop rapport with other students, creating a peer-to-peer network of people with similar interests. The involvement in these organizations has helped me to develop communication skills to articulate my positions on political and social issues.

During my time here at Purdue, I have been involved in Pi Beta Phi. One of our cornerstone programs is Read, Lead, Achieve. I have invested my time at Purdue in giving back to the community. Through working with different programs we are able to expand the access of knowledge to more Americans. Examples of some things I have participated in are the Day of Service in Indianapolis, where a group facilitates the donation of books to teachers working at underfunded schools. Another example is going to local schools to read to children with the purpose of promoting reading habits. Miracle Mania is a dance competition between Greek life organizations at Purdue. The proceeds raised from Miracle Mania are donated to the local Children's Miracle Network Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. For this specific philanthropy I was responsible for coordinating a routine that involves other fellow members in the Greek community as well making sure that it was a team effort. Involvement in these activities has pushed me to become a team leader and further my organizational skills.
